Do you have Medicaid? Starting January 1, 2027, a new federal rule will require some Medicaid recipients to show that they are working, in school, volunteering, or enrolled in job training in order to keep their coverage. This new policy is called the Medicaid Work Requirement.
We know this can feel confusing, so we want to make sure our patients have the facts early. You can read the official fact sheet from New York State of Health in English or Spanish.
The two most important things you should know/do:
- Know your Medicaid renewal date
- Recertify as soon as your window opens.
You can begin the recertification process up to 45 days before your renewal due date. If your renewal falls before the end of 2026, completing it during that window will keep you covered through all of 2027 without needing to meet the new requirements immediately.
